Massage Therapy

Massage Therapist Carol

Are your muscles sore, achy, or injured? Massage therapy could be the ideal solution!

Massage therapy is often associated with relaxation and pampering, but it can actually play a significant role in achieving optimal health and wellness. Massage can even be used as a rehabilitation technique following an injury or surgical procedure. And, of course, there are also the proven benefits of stress-relief, tension reduction, and mood improvement.

Amesbarry Chiropractic is pleased to offer professional massage therapy as part of our comprehensive suite of wellness services.

What Conditions Can be Treated with Massage?

Our team uses massage therapy to address a wide range of conditions and ailments. Some of these include, but are not limited to:

  • Muscular pain, such as in the neck or back
  • Chronic conditions like arthritis and fibromyalgia
  • Pulled, strained, or tight muscles
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Mental health issues

How Massage Helps the Healing Process

Injuries large and small happen all the time. Massage therapy at Amesbarry Chiropractic can help with the healing process. The muscles in our bodies have memory. When an injury happens of any kind, the muscles heal with scar tissue and adhesions. This makes the muscles less flexible, and as a result, they don’t move as well.

Sometimes muscles become sore and tight from overuse, sports, static positions, or repetitious activities from work or hobbies. Massage helps break up the adhesions and scar tissue and return the muscle to a healthy, flexible state.

There are also different types of massage. At Amesbarry Chiropractic we provide therapeutic massage, sports massage, prenatal massage, and deep tissue massage, along with reflexology. If you are looking for a relaxing massage with no focused areas of pain, we provide that as well.

We recommend massage in combination with your chiropractic care. While chiropractic focuses on the relationship between the spine and its impact on the nervous system, massage focuses on the muscles of the body. Both disciplines work together to help keep the body in proper alignment, balance, and function.

Pre-Natal Massage

Amesbarry Chiropractic proudly offers prenatal massage to expectant mothers. Similar to traditional massage, prenatal massage aims to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation, and increase overall mobility.

It’s critical to note, however, that prenatal massage requires unique training and expertise as it accommodates the specific needs of women and their changing bodies. We are here to help your pregnancy go as smoothly as possible through gentle and safe prenatal massage techniques.

Our ultimate goal is for you to be as comfortable as possible throughout your pregnancy. Given the nature of this type of massage, the therapist will listen to your complaints and work gently to get the job done. As the first trimester is the most fragile, we begin to see clients once they have reached the end of month three of their pregnancy.

It is at this time that we are able to deliver the most effective massages. During your appointment with us, you can expect a light tissue massage laying on either your right or left side. You will also have the option to use surrounding supports, such as bolsters and pillows, to keep you comfortable.

Benefits of Supplemental Massage

Chiropractic care and prenatal massage work together to keep pregnant women comfortable and safe. With adjustments focused on realigning the body and massage aimed at relieving tension within the tissue, chiropractic and massage are proven to keep the muscles loose and promote increased comfort throughout the pregnancy as well as during the birthing process.

The additional burden placed on the lower back from the excess weight being carried in the front are most effectively addressed using both methods of prenatal care.

Does it work for all pregnant women?

Prenatal massage works for a variety of expectant women. Regardless of your build or the way you are carrying, you may be able to benefit from this safe, strategic method of natural care. While most pregnant women are compatible with prenatal massage, there are rare cases, such as a fragile pregnancy, in which it might not be suggested.

Many prenatal massage patients are seen once a month, but this frequency may vary based on existing need. We encourage you to communicate your feelings throughout the duration of your visit. Your comfort is of the utmost importance to us!

The highly skilled team at Amesbarry Chiropractic is trained in the most effective massage techniques, from gentle relaxation massage to deep tissue massage and more.

As with all of our services, our doctors will determine whether massage would be an appropriate treatment strategy for your specific needs and desired outcome. We will work with you to customize a treatment program that will get you the best possible results.
